Who are these a-holes, anyway ???

The Record Industry.com was founded, by multimedia artist, Sir Real, as a resource for independent artists / labels by independent artists.
It is a collective work brought to you through the efforts of many artists, musicians, tech heads and readers. So what's the point? Well, contrary to what the public is being force-fed by "the industry spin doctors", peer to peer technology, in conjunction with various media compression formats (ie: MP3, Vorbis, VQF, DivX, etc...) and e-commerce solutions, offer a low cost (to no cost) distribution method for any and all artists that wish to utilize it.

For illustrative purposes : The MP3 is a compressed sound format that is NOWHERE NEAR CD QUALITY. At 128k you are looking a 10:1 compression ratio (which, basically means that 90% of the actual sound IS NOT there). For that reason, it is a revolutionary lo-fi, promotional vehicle for the indie artist and label. Are you going on tour ? Have a new line of t-shirts, CD or DVD that you just spent the last six months getting together ? Find out who is downloading your music or watching your videos & you know exactly who your market is. How much easier can it get?

The Web, together with P2P & MP3 technologies, have opened the door to anyone who has ever made or listened to music..

It makes us incredibly sad thinking of all the amazing music that has just been lost to time, simply because it never had a way to get out or it sat on the shelf at some label and the artist could not do anything. Todays artist is media-saavy and, chances are, they have a fairly good grip on technology. Some 15 year old, in Croatia, could be on his/her bedroom computer composing the next "Wall", "Innervisions", "Sgt. Peppers" or "Nation of Millions". With that same machine, they can distribute their music around the world in an instant. These are exciting times.

The Record Indsutry.com stance is pro-technology and is all about enabling the artist with a feasible alternative. An alternative where they might actually be able to get their music out and make a little money to eat vs. living the life of a musical crack whore.

Preserve your right to free expression !!!

There you are... so now get to work..

Gary Kuzminski ( aka Sir Real )

Founder / Executive Director & Creative Director

Sir Real is a critically acclaimed artist, animator, photographer and musician. Over the last two decades, he has played and recorded with a host of major & indie projects. In 1988, he founded Sir Real Labs as an outlet for his artwork. He began gaining prominence in the late eighties and early 90's when the rave scene crossed the Atlantic. In 1992, Sir Real Labs assumed the role of creative director for the landmark, techno-youth culture magazine, Reactor. SRL's work helped to pioneer the look and feel of the rave flyer and over the years he has designed hundreds of early flyers, concert posters and CD artwork (i.e. Tranquility Bass, Moby, the Orb, Prodigy, the Jimi Hendrix Foundation - and a million other DJs, bands and musicians.) In 1998, he was turned on to the MP3 format and things have never been the same. He is currently in the studio recording an, as of yet, unnamed project and currently resides in Chicago were he creates, records and carries a camera with him around the clock.
